Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launch is just around the corner, and as time is passing the curiosity of people interested in buying it is also increasing. There’re many questions which remain unanswered about various features of this upcoming flagship device, and one of those questions is whether Note 8 will have IR blaster or not?
The answer to this question hasn’t yet been provided by any of the leaks, rumors and official teasers of Samsung, but users of Samsung’s devices have been craving for an IR blaster in Galaxy Note devices since long time. It’s an interesting story and we must dive into it to understand why this question has been raised by the Samsung fans.
Until 4 years ago Galaxy Note devices used to come with IR blasters. Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge – each of them had the feature. However, in 2015 Samsung took a different turn and decided to remove the feature from Galaxy Note 5.
Weirdly, the feature was included in two other flagship devices (S6 and S6 Edge) launched by the company that year. Why Samsung decided to exclude it from Galaxy Note devices then is a question still unanswered. Some people say that company had learned from its research and analysis that most Galaxy Note owners were not using the feature, but that doesn’t seem a reasonable explanation because on company’s official forums there’re many threads (like this one) where Samsung fans have been discussing the importance of this particular feature to them.
So in 2015 Galaxy Note 5 didn’t come with an IR blaster, and same year people who loved that feature decided to not upgrade from their existing Galaxy Note devices.
Both traditions have continued largely unperturbed since then. To this date Samsung hasn’t bothered to bring back that feature in Note devices, and as a result the users who love that feature have also preferred devices other than Galaxy Notes to get that feature.
Now with launch of Galaxy Note 8 the fans of Samsung are once again hoping that somehow Korean giant can bring back the old goodness of IR blaster. However, the chances of that happening are very thin as there’s not even a single leak about the presence of this feature in Note 8.
Other features expected to be a part of Galaxy Note 8 include a dual-camera setup on its back, Infinity display, Bixby with its dedicated hardware button, fingerprint sensor and iris scanners. A thin and lighter profile are also expected, but there’s no word yet about the presence of Infrared or an IR blaster in that upcoming Samsung beast.
We’ll come to know next week whether this feature has been included in Note 8 or not, as the much awaited upcoming smartphone is about to be launched on 23rd of August. And when that happens, we’ll update this page so you can come to know whether about it. So don’t forget checking this page back on or after August 23.
